Today, the St. Petersburg State Academic Ballet Theater named after Leonid Yakobson occupies an important place among the strongest ballet companies in the country; p> The fairy-tale extravaganza "The Nutcracker" has long been associated by viewers around the world with the magic of Christmas and New Year's holidays. However, in any season, the ballet gathers millions of admirers of the work of P.I. Tchaikovsky and the great choreographer Marius Petipa, to whose community we owe the appearance of the famous ballet.

It was based on the German fairy tale E.T.A. Hoffmann's "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King" about the triumph of love over the forces of evil. Choreographer Vasily Vainonen, who created his version of The Nutcracker, came up with an ideal performance for children, which adults also enjoy watching. The magical music of P.I. Tchaikovsky, the subtle psychologism and bright theatricality of the stage direction, the picturesque costumes and the dance numbers, amazing in their originality, performed by virtuoso dancers make this production one of the most beloved and anticipated spectacles of the theatrical season. In addition, according to German legend, nutcrackers bring good luck and protect the house.
